The Mean Bean story
It started as a hobby. Roasting small batches, giving them away, then getting asked for more.
In 2010 that turned into a retail store and roastery in Galena, Illinois. The back wall was the flavoring wall, over 60 flavors in jars, and customers built their own blends off it. Next to it stood the biggest K-cup wall around, over 100 flavors, and people filled their own boxes one cup at a time. Create your own was the whole idea, and it still is.
Then life happened. We sold the store to look after my parents, moved the roaster to the family farm in Sheffield, Illinois, and converted an old corn crib into the roastery.
That is where every order is roasted and labelled today, fourteen years of customers later. Over 5 million flavor combinations, roasted to order, out the door in 48 hours.
